Member’s FAQ

Who organizes the meetings?

Helen Thomas and Laura Wanker are the current Organizing Team, organizing the meetings and sending out communications to members. We’re glad to have additional help, though, if you’d like to join the steering team or help out at meetings.

Are you still open for membership?

Yes! We are glad to have 100+ members!

What is my commitment as a member?

When you join as a member you commit to attending 3 meetings per year and donating $100 each meeting to the selected nonprofit of the evening.

How do I join?

You can join by signing up on this google form.

When and where is the next meeting?

Our next meeting will be held Thursday, June 25, at 6pm, at the Silverton High School Library.

What if I can’t make it to a meeting?

Members who can not attend a meeting can donate directly, by check or online, to the chosen nonprofit with a notation that the donation is for “100 People.” Alternatively members may send a blank check with a trusted friend to the meeting. Please let us know if you won’t be able to attend the meeting.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely! We encourage anyone interested in our process to attend a meeting. They may join on site, or they may just watch and learn. Either way, we are happy to share our wonderful community nonprofits with our attendees!

Why didn’t I get a voting slip at the last meeting?

If you did not make a donation at the previous meeting (or in an alternative method described above) you will not be able to vote until after your next donation. Please be sure to let us know if there are special circumstances.

Can I just send a check or donate online to this meeting’s nonprofit choice?

Yes, but please be sure to designate that donation as “100 People” so the nonprofit can include it in our total, and send us an email letting us know so that we mark you as able to vote in the next meeting.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes, only 501(c) (3) nonprofit organizations are considered for nomination and donations go directly to those agencies.

How do I nominate my favorite nonprofit?

You can nominate a 501(c) (3) nonprofit if you are a member and have attended and donated at a meeting. Nominations are accepted one month before each upcoming meeting using this google form.

Who can nominate a nonprofit?

To nominate and be “in the hat” to present for a local nonprofit at one of our meetings, you must be a committed member (i.e., have completed the Commitment Form, made your first donation, and be up-to-date in your donations). It is important to talk with someone at the nonprofit before nominating to make sure this will fit into their fundraising timeline. Note: Local means that the nonprofit serves the Silver Falls region, though they may be headquartered elsewhere.

Do I have to make a nomination and make a presentation at some time?

No, many people just like to show up, learn about local nonprofits, and give.  While all members have the opportunity to nominate a nonprofit, it is not a requirement for membership. But making a pitch for a local nonprofit is fun and rewarding!

If I nominate an agency can someone else make the presentation?

Except in very unusual circumstances, no. The intent is that nominators will make the presentation and that someone from the agency will help with the Q&A portion of your time.

Nominee’s FAQ

Can our nonprofit join 100 People Who Care – Silver Falls Region?

Not exactly. People join our giving circle, not organizations. Staff members and/or volunteers of a nonprofit can join, but they are joining as individuals and making a personal commitment to write a $100 check to whichever nonprofit is selected by the group for at least three meetings.

How do we get nominated?

You must be nominated by a committed member who has attended and donated during the previous meeting.

How can I make a great presentation?

What if we get nominated but are not able to participate?

We ask members to coordinate with nonprofits before nominating. If you can not participate the member will need to be able to answer the Q&A portion of the presentation.

What if we are nominated but are not chosen to present?

If you are nominated but not selected to present you are welcome to renew the nomination to be able to be “in the hat” in our next round. Just have the member let us know.

What if we present but are not chosen?

If you have been presented by a member but not chosen by the group you are welcome to be in the hat again for the next round. Just have the member let us know. If you have presented twice but not been chosen you will need to wait two years to be eligible for another nomination.

If we are chosen for the award can we be nominated again?

If you receive an award you must wait two years to be nominated again.
